Welcome to Hunting the White Whale and my about page.
This is my personal blog. The focus here is on content, digital, influencer marketing, SEO, being an solo entrepreneur (rather than a wantrepreneur), start ups, and hunting that elusive digital marketing method that so many of us seem to chase.
You’ll also find product reviews, thoughts on historic combat arts and books.
Talk about a mish-mash!
Why did I name this Hunting the White Whale? Well, I love literature and believe that Moby Dick is a great novel. The allusion to it also fits my purpose here.
For seven years, I was a director of an influencer marketing consultancy where I devised and executed programs for brands large and small. I showed them how to connect with buyers/customers through social media influencers. I’m now running my own business called 551 Media.
Before that I was a cubicle monkey at HP, Hill & Knowlton and other big PR firms. When first starting out, I worked on Wall Street where I learned the art of cold calling and how not to take rejection personally.
You can reach me at tom[at] theinfluencemarketer.com. Yes, you can really reach me that way.
Things I like to do and study:
- Being with my family
- Content marketing
- Influencer marketing
- New thinkers such as James Altucher, Tim Ferriss and Noah Kagan to list only a few
- Physical and mental fitness
- Wine, especially Pinot Noir
- historic European combat arts
- Texas Armizare (my historical fencing club)
I’ve done a lot of things over the years. Some well and some not so well. This blog is a chance for me to write about them, expose what when wrong and what went right.
